It sure tastes different in the summer, but in the winter, the atmosphere of the wooden windowed section we were in was wonderful.

The dock for the Seine dinner cruise in Paris was easy to find. It was near a bridge and within walking distance of the bus line, major hotels in Paris, and station hotels. I found the warm and cozy ambiance of the lovely vintage boat a refreshing departure from the normal sightseeing cruises. On board, you’ll find Parisians celebrating special occasions and friendly staff who’ll make you feel like a local.

However, if you’re driving, parking is available on the left/south bank of the river (same side as the barge) at 29 Rue Mazarin. On the right/north bank, it’s available at Saint Germain l’Auxerrois beneath the church. We were taken onto the boat with a very warm welcome, and first the greeter and then the service attendant accompanied us to our table. First impressions were very positive, we have seen this boat from afar for years and always wanted to try it one day. Originally built in 1939 to transport cargo, Le Calife barge has long since been converted into a luxurious floating restaurant, refurbished in shining mahogany, teak, and stained glass. For anyone visiting Paris, we highly recommend treating yourself to a cruise on board Le Calife. After about a two-hour tour, the boat returns to the starting point. Well, if we take into account the time we spent drinking champagne while waiting to take off, about an hour at first.

Every table was next to a window, so it felt nice to essentially be guaranteed front-row views of the river Seine and the light of the city.

As I sailed past the city’s major monuments, I couldn’t help but be wowed by the breathtaking nightscapes and river scenery that made it the highlight of my Parisian trip. Both include at least an aperitif (champagne and appetizer), a starter, the main course, and dessert. Guests will be happy to note they can choose from three or four different options from each category. On the upper deck, you’ll be treated to an open-air experience as the roof opens up on clear, warm days and nights.
